The West Central Junior Class thanks you for your scrap metal donations. Please remember no appliances or treadmills accepted. There are fees associated with disposal of those items. Thank you.
Senior parents: Mrs. Fliehler would like to do a special tribute to them in the yearbook. Can you get a photo of them that shows what they have been doing during this break from school or how the coronavirus is impacting them? Email photos to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks in advance.
Hello Students and Parents, just wanted to let everyone know that we miss all of you and hope to have you back in our halls and classrooms as soon as possible. Remember to social distance, wash your hands and use hand sanitizers. Stay safe and see you soon. Fred Matlage, Superintendent
West Central Community School District (WCSD) COVID-19 FAQ
How long will school be closed?
At this point, The West Central Community Schools will be closed through Monday, April 13, 2020, following Governor Reynolds’ statewide recommendation.
Will students still receive meals?
During the school closure, we are committed to providing meals to our students. The District, through the Nutrition Services Department, is establishing drive-through or walk-up meal pick-up location.
Will students have to make up the missed school days?
Governor Reynolds announced that she is signing a bill approved by the legislature that allows her to forgive the instructional hours missed during the school closure. This means that students will not need to make up the school days missed during the next several weeks.
Will staff be paid during the closure?
It is critical that we support the health, safety, and well-being of our staff during this uncertain time. This includes helping minimize any financial impact to employees while schools are closed. We recognize pay and financial security are extremely important to all families. The District will continue to pay employees their normal salaries and wages during the school closure.
Will the District provide opportunities for online learning during the school closure?
Instruction and student learning remain a priority for the District. We continue to work with the state to determine how this would and could look. Teachers will still be in contact online during the coming weeks with resources and alternative online instruction. This instruction will continue to be optional and not graded. Again, this is for parents and students to utilize during the closure as optional and not graded resources.
Will the current enrollment/RAMS schools continue to meet online during the closure?
As of March 20,2020, the RAMS concurrent courses taught by NICC faculty will not resume online until we receive approval from your schools. For now, concurrent sections being taught at RAMS are on hold. We have asked our instructors to continue to transition their face to face coursework to an online format, but to not start the class back up with assignments, deadlines, expectations at this time. Instructors will be emailing or putting an announcement in their class that it is at present on hold until we are given the green light to begin.
These courses include:
Gen Bio II
Human A&P II
Composition I and II
Intro to Psychology
Introduction to Accounting
Business Computer Applications
Infant/Toddler Care and Education
Is the District cleaning buildings regularly?
Yes, the District has a regular cleaning schedule for all buildings. In addition to the measures already in place, the District will conduct cleaning procedures - as recommended by the CDC - while schools are not in session. This will include cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces, including tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.

West Central Statement on School Closure Due to Covid-19
Due to recommendations by the Governor’s Office and the Iowa Department of Public Health, West Central school will be closed for a period of up to four weeks. With the late nature of the state’s guidance, we are working through uncharted territory. Effective immediately, there will be no school events, practices, or activities until further notice. The district will do its best to reschedule activities where possible. The school will be closed to organizations using school facilities as well.
There will be additional information forthcoming later in the week concerning updated guidance from the state that may be implemented for a part of the closure time. We understand the difficult nature of this situation and decision on students, families and communities, and ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate an unprecedented time in modern American history. Take care of yourselves, your families, and each other as best you can. We will get through this together.
Yours in Education,
West Central Administration
Until further notice: Due to the recent school closure, the weight room will not be available and the key fobs will not work. Any missed time will be added on to extend your membership. Thank you for your understanding.
